Barren, Empty Enclosures

Barren, empty cages are typical homes for animals kept at roadside zoos. Exhibits like these do nothing to stimulate activity. Deprived of opportunities to behave naturally, animals housed in these environments tend to pace back and forth and show signs of psychological disturbance.

Lemurs housed in a barren exhibit at Northwood Buffalo and Exotic Animal Ranch in Seagrave. There was no public stand-off barrier around the exhibit
to prevent these children from having direct contact with the animals.
